Fontes de História: pelos caminhos do património da água!

‘Fountains of History: along the paths of water heritage!’ is a pilot initiative created in 2025 and open to the public at Parque das Águas with a programme that aims to raise awareness of the heritage value of the space and the history of water in the city of Porto. During the month of August, every Saturday, a series of activities combining knowledge, creativity and sustainability were open to the community through workshops run by local studios, guided tours of the fountains and the water tower, exhibitions, peddy papers and a collective mural marked the 1st edition.

The programme was designed to highlight the heritage of water through workshops that explored the plants in the park - botanical cyanotype and tatakizome workshops by Azul Cobalto Art; a journey through the tiles that adorn many of the fountains in the park and the city - tile painting workshop by Escape Estúdio de Cerâmica; a workshop on the creative reuse of glass that gave a second life to containers with Boa Bombarda Oficina de Artes; and a small tribute to the Park's neighbour, Aurélio da Paz dos Reis, with a ‘photography à la minute’ workshop that explored the Park's scenery with Guilherme Monteiro's Wonder Box.

The collective mural resulted in a wealth of written memories about water heritage, highlighting the importance of the historical and natural heritage of water, left by visitors of all ages and nationalities who visited the Water Park during the month of August.

The screening of historical films by SMAS also marked the initiative and served as a cinema in the Park where visitors stopped to watch the moving images that record the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s when major works were carried out to improve the city's network.
