Historical Archive
The Historical Archive consists of documentary, photographic, and audiovisual archival heritage, covering the period from the late 19th century to the 20th century, on various aspects related to the water supply system of the city of Porto, the sanitation network, rainwater, water lines, buildings, and services of the AEdP headquarters.
These are administrative documents, photographs, and technical drawings produced mainly by Compagnie Générale des Eaux (a French company that supplied water to homes and built the first industrial system in the 19th century), Hughes & Lancaster (an English company that built the first sanitation network designed in the 19th century), Serviços Municipalizados de Águas e Saneamento do Porto (municipal water and sanitation services created by the municipality in 1927), Águas do Porto (municipal company created in 2006 responsible for managing the urban water cycle), and Águas e Energia do Porto (municipal company created in 2020 responsible for managing energy services).
This documentation can be consulted by members of the public outside Águas e Energia do Porto. Access to the documentation is subject to prior authorization, by sending an email request to schedule an in-person consultation at the municipal company's headquarters. Depending on the characteristics of the documents and their state of preservation, there may be restrictions on their consultation and digitization.
