  • description
  • It was in 1819 that the City Council moved into the building constructed in the 18th century, a former noble residence. The fountain was located in the building's inner courtyard and in 1815 began to be supplied with water from the Camões Spring. The first Town Hall headquarters began to be demolished in 1916 due to the construction of Avenida da Liberdade. Along with the fountain, the city's coat of arms, which topped the headquarters, was also preserved in the gardens. The larger bowl and the bulbous column that supported it are no longer preserved.
