- It was built as part of the opening of Rua de Mouzinho da Silveira, designed in 1872. The arch that houses it was built to support the pre-existing Rua dos Pelames, and was used to build the fountain. It was supplied by the waters of the Arca do Mercado do Anjo which then continued to the Fonte da Praça da Ribeira.
