  • description
  • It was built to take advantage of water from a spring discovered in 1784, which was considered medicinal due to its high iron content. The ferruginous water was attributed with thermal and therapeutic properties, which was reflected in the architectural design of the fountain, consisting of a staircase leading to the lower level of the backrest, with two spouts, creating a sheltered atrium for moments of healing. It was the only thermal fountain in the city of Porto that served the public and had a guard service.
