- The water from the Paranhos Spring has been mentioned since the 12th century, but the cisterns and network of underground galleries were only built in the 17th century. It consisted of water from three springs and was the largest spring supplying the city of Porto, with a revolutionary water distribution network that supplied countless cisterns, fountains and private homes.
