Parque das Įguas reopens to the public

The green space reopens to the public today, July 6, with extended hours, following the completion of the preliminary technical assessment of the tree population conducted in the wake of the severe weather events that affected the country last winter.

At this time, there is only one tree that continues to require protective measures. It is a 200-year-old linden tree which, according to the preliminary technical assessment, poses a significant risk to people and property, and is located right next to the park’s entrance. For this reason, access to the park will temporarily be via the vehicle entrance and exit gate, located next to the main entrance. This solution was the subject of a technical inspection on July 2 and was deemed adequate and safe for visitor traffic.

It should be noted that Águas e Energia do Porto has taken all necessary steps in recent months, in coordination with the technical team responsible for the phytosanitary assessment of the park’s trees, to allow for the safe reopening of nearly the entire park. Thus, visitors will once again be able to enjoy this green space, with only the area surrounding the identified tree remaining off-limits.

At a time when the country is experiencing a heat wave, the reopening of Parque das Águas restores to the city a special place to connect with nature, where the extensive wooded areas provide shade and comfort, making it a particularly pleasant spot for walks and leisure activities. It is worth noting that in urban areas, spaces like this are essential and can have a significant cooling effect on cities.

The technical assessment of the tree population will continue throughout July, allowing for the preparation of the final report and the corresponding tree management plan. The work to be carried out on the bicentennial linden tree will be determined only after this process is completed.
Águas e Energia do Porto calls on all visitors to strictly comply with safety rules. Respect for existing signage and restricted areas is essential to ensure the safe use of the park while the ongoing technical work is being carried out.
